written for him

why do you hold on to things better let go?
I know this situation all too well
and the thing is
we know what needs to be done
we know the answer
and yet we go out of our way to avoid it
we ask people their opinion
what would they do
what should I do
and when they tell us the answer
that we've tried avoiding for so long
we add to the list
to the pile
another thing in which we must ignore
and love
the straw that breaks the camels back
is not typically something from the origin
rarely a direct result of the beginning
but something off course
that we've hoarded
and its unfortunate
to be the one left around
the mate helping you sort the pieces
of broken hopes off the floor
its unfortunate
to be have completely nothing to do
with anything directly
the one offering only help
and its unfortunate
that its so easy
to push everything onto someon elses plate
onto their back
to twist and shape it
in a way
that we fail to recognize
that we
unlike the origin
are the ones left stepping on our own hopes
the ones holding ourselves back.
